Medical Students for Choice

“Lawmakers, either get out of the vagina business or go to medical school.”

-Wendy Davis, during her 13-hour filibuster to block a bill restricting abortion services in Texas

Medical Students for Choice® (MSFC) is an internationally known organization with 10,000+ members at over 135 medical schools and residency programs across the US and Canada. Guided by the understanding that "WITHOUT PROVIDERS, THERE IS NO CHOICE", MSFC is committed to ensuring that medical students and residents receive the education they need to provide women with COMPREHENSIVE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE. Our grassroots efforts have led to curriculum reform, expanded training opportunities, and increased awareness of reproductive rights among policymakers across North America

The primary cause of the abortion provider shortage is LACK OF TRAINING. Medical students simply are not learning how to provide abortions or counsel patients with unintended pregnancies. MSFC is changing this situation by (1) Making long-term, permanent change to medical training institutions; (2) Preparing a new generation of pro-choice physicians for leadership in the MOVEMENT TO IMPROVE WOMENS HEALTHCARE; (3) Providing opportunities for students to obtain training in abortion and family through a range of educational programs.

At the University of Alberta chapter, we will host events like clinical skills workshops, information sessions around lesser-known or often misunderstood aspects of reproductive health care, and pro-choice media viewings.
