Christian Medical and Dental Society (CMDS)

The Christian Medical and Dental Society (CMDS) is made up of doctors, dentists, and students committed to integrating faith in Jesus Christ with practicing medicine.  CMDS plays an important role in providing communication and support for those in the unique position of being both Christians and medical practitioners/students.  And we’re not doing this just at the U of A – we’re part of a broader Edmonton chapter of docs and dentists here, and it’s just one chapter across Canada.  Check out the national website for more info:

A few things that we really want to continue to focus on this year are building lasting friendships with fellow Christian med students, encouraging each other as we learn medicine, challenging one another to explore our faith, serving our classmates and community, and having a blast while doing all this.  Having a group of colleagues (and, of course, friends) with similar values is super helpful while going through med school, as it gives you a place to discuss struggles, ethical conflicts, etc. with people in the same boat.

We will be having weekly lunch meetings to chat, study the Bible, and pray together, as well as some hang out times and hopefully service projects throughout the year. We’ll send out more details through our mailing list as the year progresses.  One event to note, which we all LOVE, are the monthly dinners at Dr. Ted Fenske’s house – a delicious home-cooked meal, awesome fellowship with students of all years and residents, and a casual talk led by a local doc.

And now we should introduce ourselves.  We, Kristy, Chad, Jeremy, and Deb are the student reps for the U of A CMDS chapter.  We’re in second year med, and would love to get to know you and support you in your Christian walk.  Drop by our booth at the clubs fair to say hi, or just fire any of us an email, and sign up for an excellent year!

That’s all for now folks,

Kristy, Chad, Jeremy, and Deb
